The Holt and Haskell Border League was rocked by the news that Cadnam captain Phil Way (32) died suddenly playing at Hordle at the weekend.

Way had played in the club’s three opening Border League matches this season and was a stalwart at the club.

All at the Border League extend their sincerest sympathy to Phil’s family and friends.

It was back to League action last week where Bramshaw, Old Tauntonians and Romsey A and Paultons A remain unbeaten with three wins from three in Division One.

Bramshaw pipped Wellow & Plaitford to a 16 run win in a high scoring encounter. Tom Arnold led the way with a brisk 77 but three wickets for Dominic Briggs gave the home side the advantage.

There was an easier win for OT’s & Romsey A as they sped past Trojans’ meagre 103 after tight bowling from Steve Smith and Jon Dowling.

Danny Mills, with a run a ball 39, ensured the points.

Paultons A, despite only having nine players, sailed past Highfield at Hardmoor – 58 for Ben Slade not enough to worry the visiting team with Tom Cottrell top scoring.

Calmore Sports A were the third team to win by six wickets. Three wickets by Mark Gardner kept Swan Green to 91 for 5 in their 18 overs, Paul Proudley and Mark Lavelle taking the home side past the post.

Despite an opening stand of 93 by Paul Longland (50) and Stuart Wood (48), OT’s & Romsey B were on the receiving end of a three-wicket defeat to East Tytherley. Will Edwards replied with 65 not out.

Totton & Eling restricted Mottisfont A to 135 for 3, despite 40s from Ian Bradwell and Graham Collins, Dan Rides bowling three tidy overs for just 11 runs.

Nick Jenkin top scored with 47 for the Totton side, leading them to a five-wicket win at Southern Gardens.

Like Division One, Division Two has three teams with 100 per cent records – Michelmersh & Timsbury, Cadnam and Redlynch & Hale.

Michelmersh coasted past OT’s & Romsey Academy by eight wickets, Max Smith playing his first match of the season following injury, hit 36. Craig Hurle bowled tightly and brother Paul Hurle led the run chase.

Broughton were skittled for 41 measly runs with Cadnam’s Scott Fancett returning bowling figures of 4 for 11. It took Cadnam just 4.1 overs to complete the task of winning by nine wickets.

There was another easy eight-wicket win for Redlynch against Ampfield, who were all out for 88. Ian Tanner and Geoff Willoughby knocked off the required amount.

Mottisfont B had the equal narrowest victory of the day, scraping past Whiteparish by four runs.

Tight bowling by both sides restricted the scoring with Tim Hunt’s four wickets the pick.

Tom Perry (83*) and Luke Gould (73*) hit an unbeaten opening partnership of 175 at Nomansland. Perry was partcularly severe on the hapless bowlers hitting nine fours and five sixes in his 52 balls. Gould’s more circumspect innings included eight fours. The home side had no answer with Adam Hargreaves taking three wickets.

Paultons B overcame Ashurst by just four runs in a tight match, Mark Potts, with four wickets for Ashurst.
