Eastleigh not afraid of FA Cup trip

6:00am Thursday 29th October 2009

EASTLEIGH director of football Dave Malone says the Spitfires have no fears about facing higher league Barrow in the FA Cup, after discovering the identity of their first round opponents.

The Spitfires were awaiting the outcome of the replay between Blue Square Premier rivals Chester City and Barrow on Tuesday to find out who they would face in their first ever first round proper tie.

Following Eastleigh’s 0-0 league draw against Hampton & Richmond Borough at The Silverlake Stadium news filtered through that Barrow had romped to a 4-0 win at Chester in the fourth qualifying round replay.

Eastleigh will now travel to Barrow’s Holker Street home on Saturday week bidding to make club history once again and reach the second round for the first time ever.

And Malone said: “There won’t be any fear from us. Fear is not is not in our vocabulary I don’t think.

“Similarly there will be no arrogance about it either We have got to go and do a job.

“You saw what we did at Dover on Saturday but then you have seen that tonight has been a bit scrappy and a bit after the Lord Mayor’s show.

“So if we perform I would have thought we have a very good chance.”
