Draw makes City manager "distraught"

WINCHESTER City played out a 1-1 Wessex draw at Blackfield & Langley on Saturday but City co-manager Stuart Hussey was “distraught” at not winning.

“It should have been 10-1,” he claimed. “We totally dominated the first half. “In the second half we played tremendous football, especially in the first 15 minutes.

“We had six chances that were clear cut chances, not half chances. Danny Cox and Rhys Kelleher had one-on-ones, Shane Flooks had a one-on-one, and Guy Butters had a header that went just past the post.”

Zach Glasspool gave City the lead on 15 minutes with a fine individual goal, cutting in off the left flank onto his less favoured right foot and firing past Tom Hawkins from just inside the box. But 15 minutes from time Blackfield captain Shaun Hughes came up from the back and thumped in a 25-yard free-kick.

Both sides also hit the woodwork. Neil Williams’ long-range effort thudded against the City bar in the first half, while, in the second, Hawkins denied City’s Danny Cox tipping his effort on to the bar.

“We were excellent. I can’t fault them,” said Hussey. “The only thing we didn’t do was take our chances.”

Hussey, though, was delighted with how things are shaping up at the other end for City.

“In the second half I don’t think our keeper had anything to do other than pick the ball out of the net,” he said.
