Martin's Saints career is kick-started

AARON Martin is waiting to hear from Alan Pardew whether his Saints dream will continue.

The 20-year-old Eastleigh centre-half, a former Itchen College pupil and once on Winchester City’s books, has been training with Saints and got a run out for the reserves at Plymouth on Tuesday.

Manager Pardew watched the match and saw Martin put in a solid display alongside Ollie Lancashire at the heart of the Saints defence as Stewart Hnederon’s second string drew 1-1 at Home Park.

Henderson said: “Aaron did well.

“He played alongside Ollie Lancashire and he was steady. He won some headers and he defended well. It was a good game for him to play in, because their two front boys were useful.

“He came through it very well, as did Jack Boyle and Lee Holmes, who were full backs.

He added: “When Aaron’s been in, he’s trained with me and the first team, including sessions with Wally Downes and Dean Wilkins, and the manager’s seen him and thought he’s done OK.

“He’s a good lad, he’s worked hard and is keen to learn.

“It’s up to the manager now.”
