Penguins flock to Hants event

Forty-six members of Winchester City Penguins Swimming Club competed at the Hampshire County Development Meet in Waterlooville over two weekends.

In the overall age group competition (BAGCATS), Sam Coward was Penguins’ top performer, winning the boys’ 13-year old age group, with Oliver Heath third. Ellen Trayhurn and Rebecca Lin both came second in the 13-year-old and 10-year-old girls’ categories respectively.

Other top-15 award winners were Ashia Fenwick, who finished fourth, despite recovering from injury, with Katie Miller in seventh (12-year-old girls); Nina Absolom, sixth (13-year-old girls); Luke Kay, seventh (13-year-old boys).

Eighth places went to Ross Hunter (11-year-old boys) and Tom Heath (14-year-old boys).

George Budden (9-year-old boys) performed well in his first competition, taking ninth place overall and the nine-year-old girls did well too, with Freya Crompton, tenth, Victoria Miller, 12th and Rebecca Kettle, 14th.

Kenzie Leedell-Clarke finished 11th (10-year-old girls); Adam Crompton, 12th (12-year-old boys) and Libby Dowson, 13th (11-year-old girls).

Fourteenth places went to Robin Mooney (13-year-old boys) and Laura Jones (13-year-old girls) while Jason Haw finished 15th overall (11-year-old boys). Individual event winners also included Freya Rhodes (girls age 11, 100m freestyle); Vicky Payne (girls age 12, 100m breaststroke); Jess Pike (girls age 17, 100m & 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly) and Tom Coward (boys age 15, 50m breaststroke).

Also swimming well, and not all completing the full BAGCAT events, were Lucy Upcraft, Lucy Baines, Isabelle Woods, Georgia Bell, Phoebe Willoughby-Hannington, Genevieve Standen, Rachael Anderson, Chloe Ponting, Matthew Elliott, Joseph Briggs, James Hunter, Tim Lewis, Charlotte Amies, Ruby Kenneally, Sally Goodhand, Ellie Cross, Alexa Dymond, Georgie Elliott, Adam Lewis, Oliver Moravszky and Seb Haw.
