Not good for openers in Premier League

HURSLEY Park and neighbours St Cross Symondians crashed to heavy defeats on the opening day of the ECB Southern Electric Premier League season.

Having avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth on the final day of the 2007 campaign, Hursley were skittled for a meagre 65 and thrashed by nine wickets by Bournemouth.

Two miles away, St Cross fared almost as badly, being bowled out for 74 before losing by eight wickets to Totton & Eling at the Royal Green Jackets ground.

Skipper Jimmy Taylor didn't hide his disappointment about Hursley's woeful batting display.

"It was dreadful. No one applied themselves and there were some awful dismissals," he said.
