Eastleigh's play off hopes ended in their final league match when they were beaten 4-1 by Thurrock.
A defeat by a three-goal margin meant Eastleigh had to rely on a string of other results going their way in order to finish in the top five.
Assuming Havant And Waterlooville could be discounted because of their inferior goal difference, Eastleigh needed Fisher to beat Newport, Braintree and Bath to fail to win respective games against Eastbourne and Bishops Stortford, and Bromley not beating Dorchester by a three-goal margin.
Agonisingly from an Eastleigh point of view three of those results occurred, but a 47th-minute goal by Braintree against Eastbourne Borough ended the Spitfires' chances.
