EX-Saints midfielder Callum McNish has left Eastleigh to return to his parent club Braintree Town.
McNish’s initial month’s loan at the Silverlake ran out last weekend – just a couple of days after Richard Hill had been unveiled as Ian Baird’s successor as Spitfires’ manager.
The new boss had to make a prompt decision and, having weighed up his engine room options, decided he had ample cover.
Hill, who leads his new charges to Farnborough in the FA Cup second qualifying round tomorrow, explained: “I walked into the club last Thursday and Callum’s loan was up that weekend.
“We’ve got Mark Hughes coming back to fitness plus we’ve got Daryl McMahon and Glen Southam.
“With the information I had, I didn’t feel it was worth continuing with Callum.
“Callum’s a good player, but Hughes, McMahon and Southam are all similar. What one gives us, the other doesn’t and vice-versa, and I didn’t think there was room for four."
