Nick win sets up Open bid

Victory in the Romsey Golf Club Pro-Am Tournament capped a good week for Nick Redfern, which also saw him make it through to final qualifying for this year’s Open Championship.

Redfern, who plays out of the Legendary Golf Club in Hong Kong, shot a four-under-par round of 65 at Romsey, one shot ahead of Philip Bryden (Alresford) and Wraith Grant (Woodcote Park).

Walhampton’s Kevin Saunders won the Pro-AM with his team of Peter Price, Paul Baxter and John Hibberd. Their nineteen-under-par score was two better than Jon Barnes, Mike Oliver, Reg Oliver and Gary Oliver. Tim Cornick (Portsmouth Golf Centre) was third with Richard Hart, Paul Reynolds and John Farley-Cooper (124).

The Tournament, organised by Romsey Golf Club and the Rotary Club of Southampton Magna, was delayed by 50 minutes after heavy overnight rain flooded the Nursling course.

Leading Professionals: Nick Redfern (Legendary Golf Club, Hong Kong) 65, Philip Bryden (Alresford) 66, Wraith Grant (Woodcote Park) 66, Jon Barnes (Ampfield) 67, Kevin Saunders (Walhampton) 67, Ben Cummings (Dummer) 67, Roger Tuddenham (Hedge End) 67.
