On Saturday April 6, six of Winchester running club’s finest female runners travelled up to Sutton park in Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham to brave the windy conditions (which made them glad they hadn’t taken the club flag at risk of it blowing away!) and take part in the long established and eminent English road running association’s national relays.

With 36 of the top clubs in England taking part in the six stage (for women ) relay with two legs of five miles each and four legs of 5k, the day panned out well for the club’s senior women who were proud to finish up in sixth place. With Helen Hall running the first stage and getting the club off to a fantastic start in sixth place, she was followed by Alex Lane who ran a storming leg to finish her stage in fourth place. Alex was followed by Tamsin Anderson with another short leg to pass over to the newest member Charlotte Ragan who has recently transferred over from Basingstoke and finished her long leg brilliantly to hand over to another strong run by Erin Willmers and finishing with a further amazing last leg run by Lucy Elliott.

The five hour round trip for the team was duly rewarded with the sixth place finish when a top 10-15 would have made them happy. The result is truly reflective of the commitment and dedication of these women to their training regimes, their team spirit and the club ethos of creating a happy place for them all to train as well as providing excellent training sessions.
