POLAND manager Michał Probierz claimed he "only wants to call-up those who are to lead us to victory" after leaving Saints defender Jan Bednarek out of his squad.

The 27 year old has earned 52 caps for his country and started both of Poland's internationals last month before being forced off with injury.

Poland currently sit fourth in Group E of European Championship qualifying having picked up just six points from their first five goals.

Only the Faroe Islands have conceded more goals (10) than the Eagles' eight - which includes three goals conceded in a late defeat against 159th ranked Moldova.

Bednarek has been an ever-present in Russell Martin's defence this season, only missing the defeat to Leicester, following the knock he sustained on international duty.

Speaking to the media ahead of Poland's October qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Moldova, via PSN Futbol, Probierz explained why he left the Southampton defender out of his squad.

"Every selector has the right to make their own choice on who they want. I spoke to Jan, I respect every player and it's not said that he's permanently written off the team.

"It's also not like how the media portrays him as being the team scapegoat. Today, I simply decided to focus on a group of people whom, I believe will win six points in the next two games.

"I can understand that not everyone will be happy with my opinion, but keep in mind that we are observing many other players and I won't be able to satisfy everyone with my choices. I only want to call-up those who are to lead us to victory."
