OUTGOING Eastleigh owner/chairman Stewart Donald is due to meet the English Football League tomorrow (Friday) regarding his proposed takeover of fallen giants Sunderland.

The wealthy Oxfordshire businessman agreed to buy Sunderland from Ellis Short over a fortnight ago and has been going through the EFL owners’ and directors’ test.

The Black Cats are keen for the deal to get the green light so they can begin preparing for life in League One following successive relegations from the Premier League and Championship.

The Football League’s dual ownership rules mean Donald will have to sell Eastleigh to invest in Sunderland, even though the Spitfires are a National League club.

Earlier this week Eastleigh released a statement saying that Donald had agreed to sell the Silverlake Stadium outfit to existing board members, along with a number of senior management staff.

It is thought Donald will offer details of his funding plan for Sunderland tomorrow and provide an update on the sale of Eastleigh.
