EASTLEIGH’S National League home game against manager Andy Hessenthaler’s old club Dover Athletic has been rearranged.

Rained off last Saturday, the game will now be played on Tuesday week (March 27, 7.45pm) at the Silverlake Stadium.

This Saturday (3pm) another of Hessenthaler’s former sides, Leyton Orient, are due to make their first ever league visit to Stoneham Lane.

Following the ignominy of relegation from League Two last season, the Os, like Eastleigh, have had an underwhelming campaign in the Vanarama National League.

The E10 outfit are two points below the 14th-placed Spitfires in 16th spot, having played one game more, and still have work to do to make sure they are not sucked into the drop zone.

They are without a win in the last three league games, their latest disappointment being Tuesday’s 1-0 home loss to relegation-threatened Torquay United for whom ex-Spitfire Brett Williams set up Elliott Romain’s winner.

They were booed off by the frustrated Os' faithful and afterwards head coach Justin Edinburgh - appointed in late November - said the Matchroom Stadium playing surface was not helping his players, stating: “You’ll find it hard to find a worse pitch than this.”

It’s been an unsettled time at Orient in recent years – something which Hessenthaler knows all about.

When he signed a one-year deal in the summer of 2016, he became the seventh manager of a turbulent spell under Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti.

But his stay lasted only five months as he was sacked that September with Orient 14th in League Two.

The Os got through five different managers last season - one more than Eastleigh - and their proud 112-year stay in the Football League duly ended after a 3-0 defeat at Crewe.

Earlier this season, Eastleigh – then under Richard Hill’s charge – were desperately unlucky not to come back from Brisbane Road with all three points.

Having taken the lead through an Ayo Obileye penalty, they were pegged back by Craig Clay eight minutes into second-half stoppage time.

Eastleigh are without a win in five league games, having drawn two and lost three in February.
