PEOPLE of a certain age will remember Brian Jacks when he burst on to TV screens and took BBC’s Superstars by storm.

That happened in 1979/80. Not many of us knew that for the previous 16 years he had also been one of the world’s best judo players!

He took part in three Olympic Games -Tokyo 64, Munich 72 and Montreal in 76.

He won bronze in Munich and a bronze in the 67 World championships. Plus a trophy cabinet full of domestic and European medals.

Superstars catapulted Jacks to superstar status and opened up martial arts to a new generation of people.

They wanted to change their lives and be like Jacks. Many did. By the end of the 90s Jacks decided to retire and move to Thailand.

Jacks is back now and coming to the end of his 100-day UK tour that has seen him travel all over the country.

He is demonstrating judo and signing copies of his recently published autobiography called ‘Brian Jacks, The Mindset of a Champion with Marc Gingell.'

Jacks has two Hampshire appearances coming up this week.

On Friday (October 13) he will be at The White Hart in Andover (6.30-9.00pm) and on Sunday (October 15) at the Holbrook Judo Club in Gosport (10am-1pm) where he will be leading a martial arts master class and signing copies of his book which he confirms will not be in shops or on Amazon this year.
