Anglers heading afloat continue to find plenty of quality fish in the area.

Paul Griffin used a squid/mackerel cocktail presented on a pennel rig to tempt a 20lb blonde ray while fishing from the Lymington-based boat ‘Last Laugh’ skippered by John Skeggs.

Tom Rickman, 8, who attends Milford Primary School, landing a brace of specimen black bream weighing 3lb and 3lb 11oz while fishing from the Lymington's ‘Manta Ray’ skippered by Tom Walker.

He also landed the best plaice of the session weighing 1lb 10oz.

Nearly 350 fish were recorded during the fourth round of the Southern League pegged catch & release open event fished at Southsea which attracted 92 competitors.

Seventeen undulate rays were recorded along with a number of smoothhound, flounders, spotted rays, thorneback rays, dogfish, pout, conger and whiting.

The pool for the heaviest flatfish was won by Adam Misselbrook with a 15oz flounder.

There was a three-way tie for the round fish pool with Peter Farrell, Darren Cramer and Danny Mogridge all recording an undulate ray weighing 10lb 15oz.

Results: A zone, 1st Danny Mogridge 16lb 11oz, 2nd Ben Arnold 11lb 12oz, 3rd Paul Phillips 8lb 5oz.

B zone; 1st Peter Farrell 19lb 6oz, 2nd Darren Cramer 17lb 4oz, 3rd Brendon Moon 10lb 6oz.

C zone; 1st Ryan Whitcombe 11lb 1oz, 2nd Daniel Crump 10lb 10oz, 3rd Mike Groves 10lb 3oz.

D Zone; 1st Glenn Short 12lb 12.5oz, 2nd Nick Hayter 11lb 2oz, 3rd Justin Roulland 11lb 1oz.

Smoothhound and dogfish dominated during an Allan Marine midweek catch & release match held at Lee-on-Solent.

The night’s heaviest fish was a 5lb 2oz smoothhound bagged by Mick Goodyer.

Results: 1st Mick Goodyer 9lb 12oz, 2nd Danny Mogridge 8lb 15.5oz, 3rd Nick Hayter 6lb 14oz.

HAMBLE SAC: A large boat competition fished over Christchurch Ledge produced plenty of black bream along with a smattering of pollack, wrasse, dogfish, pout and rays.

The day’s heaviest fish was a 12lb 5oz undulate ray bagged by Tony Spridgeon.

Results: 1st Rob Shattock 121pts, 2nd Tony Spridgeon 72pts, 3rd Daren Gale 45pts, 4th Connor Baigent 43pts, 5th Dave Treacher 17pts.

GOSPORT & DISTRICT AC: Dogfish and pouting dominated during a shore competition fished along local beaches.

Results: 1st John Blake 3lb 12oz, 2nd Ben Cane 2lb 8oz, 3rd Barry Eggleton 2lb 4oz, 4th Derrick Haggard 2lb 3.75oz.

LYMINGTON & DISTRICT SFC: Cold blustery conditions greeted competitors during a shallow boat fixture, although a number of dogfish, smoothhound, pout, whiting and plaice were recorded.

Results: 1st Dennis Mapes 15lb 1oz, 2nd Phil Morgan 14lb 14oz, 3rd Barry Littlefair 10lb, 4th Robert Miness 6lb 15oz.

Garfish, dogfish and whiting figured during the club's monthly Shingle Bank league fixture fished at Milford.

Junior Flora Munden recorded the heaviest fish - a 1lb 13oz dogfish.
