St Swithun’s Junior School swept the board when they hosted a junior school girls’ cross-country event.

The four teams from the Winchester-based school all won the gold team medals in their age category with some outstanding individual runs and achievements.

Other junior schools competing were Oliver’s Battery Primary School, Portsmouth High and Portsmouth Grammar School.

In the U8 category, St Swithun’s girls claimed all three place medals - winner Emily Philips followed by Issy Hastie and Aleksija Blow.

Poppy Russell, Amalia Sargent and Amelie Bulpitt also competed for Swithun's.

In the U9 race, Theya Dare Bryan won comfortably followed by a Portsmouth High School runner and Swithun’s Erin Sheffield in third.

Other Swithun’s runners were Amelia Winward, Alice Thornber, Zofia Litwic and Alice Rose

The U10 race was set alight by a blistering start from a Portsmouth Grammar School runner who led the race for the first lap, but was caught and overtaken by St Swithun’s pair Hermione Murray (first) and Immy Watson (second).

Other Swithun’s runners were Elfye Richards, Penny Niven and Amelia Johns.

The final race saw the closest one of the day with Issy Law and a runner from Portsmouth High School going stride for stride in the U11 two lap race. Law eventually finished second.

Other Swithun’s runners were Sasha Law, Erin Mayes, Grace Burlison, Louisa Baldock and Charlotte Orman.

Director of sport at St Swithun’s Junior School, Roger Marshall, said: “Well done to all the girls who have been running at lunchtime to prepare for this event and to all those who also choose to come out and run over their break time.

"It is so lovely to see so many girls making the most of the opportunities available to them at school."
