Premier League transfer window - the main action so far, and the deals that could still happen

Contract rebels like Jose Fonte, Dimitri Payet and Saido Berahino have all been on the move while new managers Sam Allardyce, Marco Silva and Paul Clement have been among the busiest bosses since the turn of the year.

Here the Daily Echo rounds up what has happened so far, and what may occur in the window's final act.

ARSENAL

WHAT THEY WANTED Historically little business has been done at the Emirates during this month and this year has, so far, proved to be no different. Supporters were more concerned about new deals for Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Arsene Wenger himself.

WHAT THEY GOT Four Gunners did sign extensions, though it was Olivier Giroud, Francis Coquelin, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker who put pen to paper. Wenger also made a signing, even if former non-league defender Cohen Bramall is one for the future.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Late swoops for Marco Reus or Antoine Griezmann seem particularly fanciful at this stage. Expect Wenger to stick with what he has, especially after Danny Welbeck made a scoring return to the starting line-up on Saturday.

BOURNEMOUTH

WHAT THEY WANTED Eddie Howe had declared himself happy with his group before the window opened, though he had hoped to hang on to Chelsea loanee Nathan Ake for the remainder of the campaign.

WHAT THEY GOT So far nobody has arrived, and Ake's return to Stamford Bridge has weakened a porous defence. Howe may yet do something about that before 11pm on Tuesday.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Bagging Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic appears to be Howe's number-one priority now, so they will hope the dominoes fall in their favour when it comes to the Blues' interest in Celtic's Craig Gordon too.

BURNLEY

WHAT THEY WANTED Joey Barton's return to Turf Moor had already been agreed, but the Clarets were still seeking more pace and invention going forward when the window opened.

WHAT THEY GOT They have had the type of form from Barton that helped them to promotion last season, though the possibility of a Football Association ban for alleged betting breaches still hangs over his head. A bid for Robert Snodgrass was accepted, yet he chose West Ham.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Sean Dyche said on Saturday he had "a couple of things in process". Securing Norwich's Robbie Brady on a probable club-record deal has been a transfer they have been linked with for almost all of January.

CHELSEA

WHAT THEY WANTED It was a short wishlist given Antonio Conte's men entered the new year with such a dominant lead at the top of the Premier League, though having only arrived in the summer some fine-tuning was considered.

WHAT THEY GOT A Diego Costa-shaped problem emerged amid rumours his head was turned by the lure of China. That seems to have been resolved, for now. Ake was recalled from a loan while Oscar, John Obi Mikel and Patrick Bamford were all flogged.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Celtic's Gordon could become Chelsea's back-up goalkeeper if Begovic is sold on to Bournemouth. Rumoured interest in Swansea striker Fernando Llorente appears to have diminshed.

CRYSTAL PALACE

WHAT THEY WANTED Allardyce came in knowing he needed to add defensive reinforcements to a squad that, on paper, still appears too good to go down even if they are currently residing in the bottom three.

WHAT THEY GOT Title-winner Jeffrey Schlupp has shored up the left side, though his arrival alone is unlikely to appease Allardyce given the rescue job at Selhurst Park appears bigger than he first thought.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt seems bound for a reunion with Allardyce and he may be passing the pen on to a few others to pen deals come the latter stages of the window.

EVERTON

WHAT THEY WANTED Some significant changes were required having entered the new year on the back of a bleak autumn. Ronald Koeman had been keen to transform his midfield with both incomings and outgoings.

WHAT THEY GOT A reunion with Koeman's ex-Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin was secured early on, as was a deal for Charlton youngster Ademola Lookman. Tom Cleverley and Gerard Deulofeu were amongst those to leave Goodison Park.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Koeman may not be pulling down the shutters yet, and he could return to Manchester United for Ashley Young, while Andriy Yarmolenko, long linked with the Merseyside club, has again popped up on the radar in recent days.

HULL

WHAT THEY WANTED New boss Silva took on a threadbare squad in desperate need of signings, though keeping hold of their star players was of equal importance.

WHAT THEY GOT Silva has certainly been backed, bringing in no fewer than five players so far, but the loss of top scorer Snodgrass and influential midfielder Jake Livermore could prove their undoing come May.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Having missed out on Leon Bailey to Bayer Leverkusen, Silva could try and bring in more of his old players, including Olympiacos' Luka Milivojevic.

LIVERPOOL

WHAT THEY WANTED Jurgen Klopp never looked like seriously pursuing either a new defender or a striker, even if it was clear both were areas of need even before their alarming slump in January.

WHAT THEY GOT The most significant bit of business Liverpool conducted was a new deal for Philippe Coutinho, yet their lack of strength in depth may prove their Achilles heel in the title race.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Virgil van Dijk could well follow the well-trodden path from Saints to Merseyside at some point, but there appears to be an acceptance he will not be moving until the summer at least.

LEICESTER

WHAT THEY WANTED The transformation from title clinchers to relegation candidates within the space of eight months had a lot to do with N'Golo Kante's move to Chelsea so replacing him was key.

WHAT THEY GOT Wilfred Ndidi has been brought in to fill the void left by Kante's departure. The Foxes' fringe players Schlupp and Luis Hernandez have also sought pastures new.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Middlesbrough's Gaston Ramirez is doing his best to push through a move to the midlands while Leonardo Ulloa is doing everything to forge a path out. Record signing Islam Slimani is also said to be interesting Chinese Super League clubs.

MANCHESTER CITY

WHAT THEY WANTED Like Liverpool, it seemed City needed fresh faces in defence if Pep Guardiola's team were going to sustain a title challenge into the spring.

WHAT THEY GOT As with the other big-hitters, they have been happy to pass up the opportunity to make signings. Gabriel Jesus' pre-arranged deal was finally completed and he has made a bright start in Manchester.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Van Dijk, Griezmann and others may have to wait until the summer. Maybe Guardiola will pull of a bold swoop for a goalkeeper given Claudio Bravo's continued struggles, however he has been backed by his boss.

MANCHESTER UNITED

WHAT THEY WANTED This was a chance to move on some of the deadwood accrued in previous transfer windows that Jose Mourinho had inherited and saw surplus to requirements. In terms of incomings, a possible defender, such as Benfica's Victor Lindelof, was mooted.

WHAT THEY GOT Both Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay departed Old Trafford and the club managed to recoup over £40million. Nobody has yet arrived at Old Trafford, and United's upturn in form has made recruitment this month less of a priority.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Mourinho is unlikely to act on whispers of interest in Lindelof and Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko in the winter, while a mega-money move for Griezmann might be the priority in the summer.

MIDDLESBROUGH

WHAT THEY WANTED One of the division's lowest scorers entered the window needing a prolific forward, with Aitor Karanka struggling to appease the restless Riverside fanbase.

WHAT THEY GOT Former favourite Bamford and Rudy Gestede have come in to bolster Karanka's attacking options, though they lost out on Snodgrass and rumoured Stoke target Bojan Krkic.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Jese Rodriguez, who Karanka knows from his time at Real Madrid, could be the third attack-minded player to move to the north east within the space of a month.

SOUTHAMPTON

WHAT THEY WANTED Fresh firepower was needed for a team that, like Boro, have struggled to consistently find the net in the top flight. Fending off advances for Van Dijk was also a matter of great importance.

WHAT THEY GOT Van Dijk appears set to remain a Southampton player beyond February having recently been made captain after Fonte forced through his move to West Ham.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS It looks as if Saints chief Claude Puel is hoping Napoli's Manolo Gabbiadini can provide a spark going forward for the EFL Cup finalists.

STOKE

WHAT THEY WANTED With Manchester City loanee Wilfried Bony not firing on all cylinders and away at the African Nations Cup, a striker was top of Mark Hughes' wishlist, as was tying down goalkeeper Lee Grant, another on loan, permanently from Derby.

WHAT THEY GOT Hughes' number one Grant was signed early on by the Potters and they solved their issue in attack by finally giving long-time target Berahino a route out of West Brom, though it may take him some time to find full fitness again.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS With Bojan having been loaned out to German club Mainz at the weekend, Stoke, usually one of the more active clubs on deadline day, may close for business a little earlier this year.

SUNDERLAND

WHAT THEY WANTED What boss David Moyes wanted was a slew of signings to help a injury-ravaged team seemingly destined for the Championship. The board had already warned the purse-strings had been tightened, though.

WHAT THEY GOT The free-agent acquisition of ex-Everton defender Joleon Lescott perhaps sums up Sunderland's predicament. Van Aanholt's expected departure will only weaken them too.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Van Aanholt's exit could free up funds for Moyes to do something. The Scot might return to Everton to land Phil Jagielka or Darron Gibson.

SWANSEA

WHAT THEY WANTED Another struggling Premier League outfit under the watch of a new manager, Clement was keen to make his mark on a team that needed an injection of fresh ideas across the board.

WHAT THEY GOT Holland international Luciano Narsingh, Norwich full-back Martin Olsson and ex-loanee Tom Carroll have all been brought in. Llorente and Gylfi Sigurdsson appear likely to stick around for the survival scrap too.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Benfica's centre-back Lisandro Lopez could give the Swans an experienced head at the heart of their defence, something they have missed since Ashley Williams left.

TOTTENHAM

WHAT THEY WANTED There are few holes in Tottenham's first-choice XI. However, the window did present an opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino to consider strengthening his squad.

WHAT THEY GOT Nobody has been brought in to White Hart Lane and Carroll is the only notable departure. Suggestions Dele Alli could join Real Madrid appear premature at this stage at least.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS Chairman Daniel Levy is usually a deadline-day protagonist, yet with the cost of a new stadium and Pochettino's team performing well, he may take the night off.

WATFORD

WHAT THEY WANTED From the outset it looked as if Watford would try and recruit midfielders after losing Roberto Pereyra to a knee injury.

WHAT THEY GOT Cleverley, a former loanee at Vicarage Road, could prove a shrewd signing while Mauro Zarate has had success in England before and M'Baye Niang should be no slouch having joined from AC Milan.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS A romantic return for Manchester United's Young may be scuppered by wages while Odion Ighalo could be saying farewell.

WEST BROM

WHAT THEY WANTED January provided Tony Pulis with another opportunity to move for long-time targets Schlupp and Jay Rodriguez. It also brought about a chance to finally end the Berahino mess.

WHAT THEY GOT Schlupp and Schneiderlin went elsewhere, Rodriguez stayed put, but Livermore came in to the squad, and Berahino was put out of his misery when jettisoned to Pulis' old club Stoke.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS The Baggies boss was at Chelsea on Saturday and full-back Branislav Ivanovic is said to be a target for a man who likes to make a splash on deadline day.

WEST HAM

WHAT THEY WANTED The Hammers were also expected to be particularly active in the new year, a right-back and a striker were identified as positions that needed strengthening, while keeping Payet on their books was considered key.

WHAT THEY GOT They received a shock when Payet refused to play for the club after expressing a desire to return to France. Ex-Saints captain Fonte and Hull's Snodgrass arrived, though both are getting on in years.

LAST-MINUTE TARGETS The end to the Payet saga finally came about after the Hammers accepted Marseille's bid on Sunday. Look for the club to reinvest the money in Brentford striker Scott Hogan.
