JAI Reason hopes his opening goal in Eastleigh’s historic FA Cup win at Swindon Town helps extend his career at the Silverlake Stadium.

The Spitfires midfielder scored the opening goal in the 3-1 win at the County Ground and impressed on the right flank after getting his chance through the unavailability of Jake Howells.

It was his ninth start under Ronnie Moore, who has made no secret of the fact that Reason, Eastleigh’s second longest serving player after making 110 appearances since signing in May 2012, does not feature in his long-term plans.

Two months ago, a few weeks after replacing Chris Todd, he discussed the possibility of a loan move for Reason.

Moore said: “I’ll always listen if someone wants to take a player, I don’t care who it is. It’s about the club, not individuals.

“Football’s about opinions and players will move on if they don’t fit a certain system. Jai’s been sat in the stand watching and he wants to play.

“He can play the ‘10’ role, but I’m not a big fan of that. What does it give the team?”

After the win at Swindon, Reason said: “I’m not going to lie, it’s been a tough few months personally.

“A few things were said and I’ve had to get my head down and work that little bit harder.

“I got my chance again and took it with both hands but I’m not sure if I’ll still be here in a few months.

“I hope so because I love the club and the people here.

“It’s a wonderful club to be at, it’s going in the right direction with good backing and very good players.

“The decision isn’t down to me and I’ll go where I’m wanted. But it’s a funny old game, it can change overnight.”

Reason’s first FA Cup match since last year’s 3-2 third round replay defeat at Bolton Wanderers was the best result in the club’s history, surpassing the 1-0 win at Crewe at the same stage of last season’s competition.

“We’ve done well in FA Cup in the last two years but the feelings I’ve got now sneak above [Crewe],” continued Reason.

“We repaid the fans who came in numbers. They got their money’s worth but when you see the quality we’ve got it’s no surprise.

“If Swindon were honest with themselves they know we were the better side and deserved to win.

“We just need to take this into the league. The FA Cup is a nice distraction but hopefully we can start climbing the table again because our main aim is to get out of the [National] league."
