RONNIE Moore has gone “back to the drawing board” to sort out Eastleigh’s defensive shortcomings ahead of tomorrow's free-entry visit of Maidstone United (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

The Spitfires had leaked eight goals in four games under Moore’s predecessor Chris Todd, but a spate of clean sheets followed the arrival of the former Tranmere manager, who felt confident they had turned the corner.

But after edgily clinging to a 2-1 win against Sutton, the Spitfires looked nervous as kittens in the second half at Woking on Saturday, frittering away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 and drop to eighth in the National League.

“We were getting to where we needed to be, but Saturday changed that,” said Moore. “We were a shambles at times and you can see why they conceded goals in the past.

“We’d gone away from working on the back four in training, but it’s back to the drawing board now.

“We’re making too many wrong decisions in and around the box and I need to figure out why.

"You shouldn't have to score four goals to win a game."

Moore's frustration boiled over in the post-match dressing room at Kingfield and he admitted: "It's the first time I've had a blast at them.

"I don't like doing that, but I can't play the game for them.

"Some of the goals we let in, the second one in particular, I just can't explain."

Skipper Ryan Cresswell missed Saturday with a calf niggle and is not expected to return against mid-table Maidstone. Neither is winger Jake Howells (hamstring).

Having been led a merry dance by one of their former (loan) players Matt Tubbs at Woking, the Spitfires defence may have to tame another familiar face tomorrow as Yemi Odubade makes a swift return to the Silverlake with his new club.
