TEAMS of youngsters have flooded to the pitch for a pre-season football tournament.

Oakwood Football Club are hosting the two-day tournament at the Test Park Sports Ground in Southampton.

Competing in the tournament are 88 mixed teams.

Teams age from under 7's to under 12's.

Day one of the tournament saw teams playing for the chance to win a trophy prize.

Sponsors of the tournament are fast-food chain McDonald's.

It is the second year running this tournament has been held and organisers say it has doubled in size.

Mark Puleo, Oakwood club secretary, said he is positive that the tournament will go to plan.

He said: "We have lots of teams but it is all going well so far and I am feeling positive about things.

"The tournament has included other teams from around Hampshire this year.

"We have three teams from Portsmouth who look quite strong at the moment but Oakwood have strong teams too."

McDonalds Franchisee Bryan Rupping said that it is great for McDonalds to support the local community.

He said: "Local franchisees should get involved with local communities and it is great to be proactive and to support grassroot football.

"Football is helps kids to stay healthy and we are keen to support that."

The tournament continues on Sunday.
