MATT Tubbs had no joy firing Eastleigh into the National League play-offs.

But he may be handed a second chance of promotion by parent club Portsmouth.

Pompey are reportedly pondering the possibility of recalling their out-of-favour striker for the League Two play-offs.

The 31-year-old former Salisbury City and Crawley Town marksman is back training with the Blues this week.

But if they want him back playing, they must officially recall him because he remains a Spitfire for the time being.

Eastleigh arranged his loan deal to cover the National League play-offs, which conclude in mid-May, but then fell short of a top-five finish.

Tubbs scored just twice for Eastleigh after joining them in early February - a penalty against Chester and his first goal from open play in a 2-1 defeat at Woking last Saturday.

Pompey, currently short of strikers, will face Plymouth over two legs in the Sky Bet League Two play-offs on Thursday, May 12 and Sunday, May 15.

They wrap up their league campaign at home to Northampton this Saturday.

Tubbs is contracted to the Fratton Park outfit until the summer of 2017.

Prior to joining Eastleigh in February, he had made 17 Blues appearances this season but had not played since October after being sidelined by injury.

Spitfires boss Chris Todd was non-committal when asked at Woking about the possibility of signing Tubbs on a permanent deal next season.

“We’ll see. We’ll have a look at it and have another chat about it and go from there,” he said.
