JAMES Vince was named England's Man of the Series after top scoring in another thriller to clinch a T20 series whitewash against Pakistan.

Opening the batting for the first time in his debut series, the Hampshire captain top-scored with a 45-ball 46 (three fours, one six) as England made 154-8 in Sharjah.

The match was tied when Pakistan were restricted to 154-7 in reply but England clinched a 3-0 series whitewash by winning their first Super Over decider.

Memories of Shahid Afridi’s forgettable Super Over for Hampshire at T20 Finals Day in 2011 were rekindled as Pakistan were restricted to just three by Chris Jordan, before Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan clinched England’s third win in five days with a ball to spare.

Shoaib Malik’s career-best 75 had taken the hosts to the brink of victory.

But Afridi and Umar Akmal could only manage a single and two leg byes before Morgan and Buttler completed England’s sixth successive win ten minutes before midnight, against the bowling of the former Hampshire star.

Shoaib had transformed Pakistan’s initial chase as he and Afridi delighted a large home crowd in a sixth-wicket stand of 66.

But defending ten in the final over, Chris Woakes - who had figured in a seventh-wicket partnership of 60 in 40 balls with Vince - overcame being clubbed for six over by Sohail Tanvir.

Shoaib was caught on the same boundary from what should have been the penultimate ball of the match, and a scrambled bye levelled the scores.

Vince rescued a patchy England batting performance, after Morgan won the toss.

He lost opening partner Jason Roy to the first ball of the match and survived on four when he gave a return chance, former Hampshire teammate Tanvir dropping his fourth catch in three matches.

Vince enjoyed a second-wicket stand of 48 with Joe Root but it was not until Woakes came in at number eight that he had another lasting ally.

The introduction of Shoaib was too much for Morgan and when Jos Buttler ran himself out, and Sam Billings went to a very good juggling catch at midwicket, England were 86-6 in the 13th over.

But Vince did not panic and Woakes turned support into dominance as 54 runs came in the last five overs.

Starved of the strike throughout, Vince lifted Mohammad Irfan for his only only six, over deep backward square off the final ball of the penultimate over, before holing out to deep mid-wicket against Tanvir five balls later.

He finished the series with an aggregate of 125 runs at 41.66, having made 41 and 38 at number three in Abu Dhabi.

"Some of the situations I was in, I had to steady it but I enjoyed every minute," he said.
