HAMPSHIRE can book their second quarter-final of the season tonight - by beating T20 semi-final opponents Lancashire at The Ageas Bowl (2pm).

Three days after their T20 quarter-final win at Worcestershire, Hampshire have the chance to secure a place in the Royal London One-Day Cup quarter-finals with one group game to play.

But it is also a big night for Lancashire, who will take a big step towards a place in the knockout stage if they win and Kent lose away to group leaders Nottinghamshire.

If Hampshire lose they will have the difficult task of beating unbeaten Notts at Trent Bridge on Wednesday night to qualify.

Hampshire are third and will go second if they win their game in hand on second-placed Essex, following the England and Wales Cricket Board’s decision to award them both points for their abandoned game against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

Lancashire are three points further behind, level on five from six games with Kent, who they beat in a Canterbury thriller on Saturday to ensure a repeat of last year’s second Finals Day semi-final against Hampshire (Birmingham Bears will continue the defence of their title against 2013 winners Northants in the first semi-final).

James Vince’s side will be after revenge, a year on from that rain-affected Duckworth-Lewis-Stern defeat, when they return to Edgbaston on August 29.

But with tonight’s match effectively a last-16 tie, Hampshire will be focused on continuing their impressive 50-over form.

Hampshire have effectively won four of their six group games, while Lancashire will arrive 48 hours after their dramatic T20 quarter-final win

Former Hampshire star Matt Coles took 3-22 but could not stop James Faulkner scoring two off the final ball to tie the scores.

Having bowled out Kent for 142, Lancashire finished on 142-6 to win on fewer wickets lost. England’s Jos Buttler blitzed a 37-ball 53 but is unavailable tonight, as is Liam Livingstone, who is reported to have suffered a head injury while celebrating the win with teammates.

Sean Ervine is likely to play his first 50-over match of the season, two months after breaking a finger.
