HAMPSHIRE have had a second game abandoned in three days due to a dangerous pitch.

Within 48 hours of the televised Royal London One-Day Cup abandonment at Cardiff, Hampshire’s Second Eleven Championship match against Kent at Polo Farm, Canterbury was called off for the same reason.

Hampshire reduced Kent to 94-9 on day one, after being bowled out for 277 on a relaid wicket.

Aussie all-rounder Ian Holland (pictured), who has taken 60 wickets at 11.9 apiece for Fleetwood in the Northern Premier League this season, finished with 6-26 after taking the last wicket as Kent were bowled out for 109.

Kent reached 32-0 after following on, before the match was called off.

Second XI coach Charlie Freeston said: “From day one the pitch was unusually dry and it quickly deteriorated as the game went on.

“Unlike the First XI game at the weekend, it wasn’t one or two incidents which highlighted how dangerous the wicket was, it was consistently up and down throughout the match.

“It was a close call to whether it was too dangerous, but the umpires made the decision and Kent were excellent in the way they handled it.”
