HAMPSHIRE leg-spin prodigy Mason Crane took five wickets as Sussex were thrashed in the Second Eleven Championship.
The 18 year-old academy product from Worthing took 5-41 from 17.2 overs as Hampshire beat their rivals by eight wickets on the Ageas Bowl’s Nursery Ground.
Hampshire were eventually bowled out for 502 - a first-innings lead of 135 - before Sussex were skittled for 197 in 58.2 overs.
Sussex top-scorer Craig Cachopa (45) was Crane’s first victim. Crane then took three wickets in six overs before ending the Sussex innings when Abidine Sakande was caught at the wicket by Lewis McManus.
Needing 63, Hampshire lost Joe Weatherley (3) and McManus (0). But Tom Alsop added 32* to his first-innings 195, sharing an unbroken 56 from 55 balls with Chris Wood (26*) as Hampshire reached their target in 11.5 overs.
