Dani Osvaldo Signed by Saints in the summer of 2013 for a club record fee of around £15m, the Italian international scored just three times in 13 league games for the club.

His last appearance was in December 2013, and the following month he was sent back to Italy in disgrace, joining Juventus on loan, after headbutting Jose Fonte in training.

Osvaldo spent the first half of last season on loan to Inter, but was bombed out by Roberto Mancini in January. He then returned to his native Argentina for a loan spell with Boca Juniors.

Here are the top ten Premier League flops...

Adrian Mutu

The Romanian cost Chelsea £15.8m, but scored just six league goals and was eventually sacked from his contract after testing positive for cocaine.

Kostas Mitroglou

The Greek international cost Fulham almost £12m in January 2014, but he only made one Premier League start and two off the bench before picking up an injury, missing the London club’s relegation a few months later. He has never played a league game for the Cottagers since and was back at Olympiakos last season.

Juan Sebastian Veron

At £28.1m, the Argentinian was one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most expensive Old Trafford flops.

He was signed in 2001, but struggled to adapt to the pace of the English game and was offloaded to Chelsea for £15m two years later.

Chelsea didn’t get value for money either, with Veron only managing seven appearances for the Blues.

Bosko Balaban

Aston Villa paid Dinamo Zagreb £6m for the striker in 2001, but he only made eight starts in two seasons – and failed to score a single goal.

Winston Bogarde

Infamously sat on his backside for most of the last three years of his four-year contract at Chelsea after signing from Barcelona in 2000.

During that time he reportedly picked up a weekly wage of around £40,000.

After appearing on Boxing Day 2000, the Dutchman only managed one more appearance – in a League Cup tie against Gillingham in November 2002.

Agustin Delgado

The controversial Ecuadorian striker was plagued by injuries after signing for Saints in November 2001 for a then club record £3.2m.

He only managed 11 Premier League appearances, scoring one goal in a 3-2 win against Arsenal in November 2002, before having his contract cancelled by mutual consent in the summer of 2004.

Andreas Cornelius

Newly promoted Cardiff signed the Danish forward from FC Copenhagen for around £8m in the summer of 2013. He left south Wales a year later after failing to make a single league start, coming off the bench eight times, and failing to score a single goal.

Marco Boogers

Then manager Harry Redknapp admitted he had never watched the striker live before splashing out £1m to bring him to West Ham in 1995.

He was sent off for a shocking tackle on Gary Neville in only his second sub outing and banned for four matches and was reportedly found by Redknapp living on a caravan site.

Boogers made two further appearances - again, both off the bench – before being loaned to Groningen.

Jozy Altidore

Despite the striker having only scored once in 28 games while on loan to Hull in 2008/09, Sunderland splashed out around £10m to sign him in the summer of 2013.

Over the last two seasons, he has made 42 appearances for the Black Cats ... and scored just a solitary goal.

Have we selected the worst Premier League signings, or can you name any more that should be added to the list of shame?
