Southampton Paralympics star Aaron Phipps has given his backing to the Community Sports Foundation as they look to get businesses behind their Young Carers Campaign.

Phipps, who competed for Team GB at wheelchair rugby at London 2012, admitted that the foundation’s work makes a huge difference to needy young people.

It comes as the Community Sports Foundation sets-up their campaign to find funding to send young carers on a sports residential trip as respite from their caring responsibilities.

Already supported by the Hendy Group, the foundation are aiming to give sporting opportunities to youngsters who don’t usually have access to facilities, by getting local businesses to give cash away for the event.

“The work of The Community Sports Foundation to fund these young carers and give them access to this opportunity is so important, it makes such a difference,” said Phipps.

“Speaking to some of them on their experiences I was so humbled by their stories about the difficulties they have at home.”

When talking about about the foundation’s residential trip, Phipps, who is an ambassador for the organisation, added: “By just coming here, getting them out of that environment, giving them a chance to be a child, I think they will remember this for years to come.”

The Community Foundation want businesses to come onboard to help fund a seven day sports camp, which gives young carers the opportunity to briefly escape the pressures of caring.
