Daily Echo freshwater fishing correspondent Mark Simmonds has landed one of the largest Amazon red tail catfish ever caught.
He reeled in a monster of 102lb from Bruce Dales Teak Trees Fishery at Changmai, Thailand. Simmonds took the fish on half a frozen chicken float fished at 70 yards and took 40 minutes to land it on 70lb line. The fish is thought to be one of the biggest caught anywhere in the world and Simmonds backed up the fish with another monster of 95lb taken on a chickens parsons nose, topped with a chicken heart.
Accompanying Simmonds on the trip to Thailand was Snows Toyota match angler Dave Higgins who landed a stunning arapaima weighing 250lb on half a frozen chicken; the fish which took nearly half an hour to land on 70lb line. Higgins also landed his own monster red tail with an 80lb fish. The pair landed 113 fish in 12 days fishing mostly on worms with no less than 19 different species.
