A famous Viking got his hands on some silverware this week – but he was handing it out rather than taking it.

Former world champion Andy Fordham was guest of honour at the Lyndhurst Workmen’s Club League presentation night where he also showed off his talents on the oche as he took on locals.

The 2004 BDO title holder has slipped down the rankings since his victory against Mervyn King in the final at Frimley Green more than ten years ago. Serious health problems set the Viking back and he tried his hand at competing with the PDC where he is just as popular among the players and supporters.

But the likeable Londoner has his sights set on a return to the Lakeside and a shot at the world championship once more.

He said: “The way I’m playing at the moment I reckon I could get back there. I’m beginning to get a few ranking points.

“It would be good to do it for my grandchildren. I can tell them I was a world champion but it would be good if they could see it.”

Andy is kept busy on the exhibition circuit and he is happy to be back on the oche regularly, whether it is in search of ranking points or playing for fun.

He added: “I am enjoying playing again but it’s like anything, when things are going well you enjoy it more.”

Calmore Cricket Club players got to shake hands with the darts celebrity more than most at the presentation evening. They won the league and also the men’s singles through Mike West and the ladies’ singles which went to Ann Green.

The only player to get the better of Fordham on the night was Coach & Horses’ Alex Bucknell.
