Andover signed off on a successful London 3 South-West season and celebrated back-to-back promotions with a solid home win against a tough Old Mid-Whitgiftian outfit.

The visitors, who could pip Eastleigh for third place after playing an outstanding game against Trojans, gave Andover a hard-fought 60 minutes before finally succumbing to the All Blacks’ power and pace in the final quarter.

Whitgiftian were behind to two Charlie Waite penalties, but fought back with a try before half-time.

They added a penalty after the break to take the lead but three Andover tries from Mark Wilding, Tom Waite and Sam Froggett, all converted by Charlie Waite saw the All Blacks home in front of a huge crowd.

Afterwards Coach Andy Waite said: “It’s been an unbelievable season for us and although we must congratulate Exiles we can be so proud of what we’ve achieved.

“Next season we will face Basingstoke, Winchester and Portsmouth in the league and we are relishing the challenge.”

Andover needed New Milton to beat London Exiles but the New Forest side fell well short on their trip to the capital.

Milton, who defeated the Exiles in their first game of the season and finish this campaign comfortably clear of the relegation zone, were walloped 80-10.

The well-drilled home side ran in five tries in the first half and nine after the break. Milton’s points came from Jack Corbett and Zac Smith.
