Hampshire Premier League Senior title chargers Hamble Club suffered just their second defeat of the season against high-fliers Otterbourne 2-1 last night.

But Scott Marchant’s side have the opportunity to atone for that defeat tomorrow night when they face Bush Hill at Shell Mex.

Richard Luffman, the Otterbourne manager, had spoken in the Sports Pink about his desire to push for a second place finish in the county top-flight.

And, although they were undone 3-2 against leaders Baffins Milton Rovers on Saturday, Otters were resurgent against Hamble.

They climbed to third through Tom Sands’ brace before Liam Crook’s 40th minute goal for Hamble made it 2-1 before half time.

Otters will look to capitalise on the momentum that has thrust them into the picture at the top of the division.

They have won nine of their previous ten games and take on Winchester Castle tomorrow night at Chilcomb.

Hamble, meanwhile, won’t be sweating on their title hopes just yet as they head into the match against Eugene McManus’s Bush outfit.

Because of their progress in many of the cup competitions, they have a number of games in hand over the teams around them.

In fact, Club are just eight points behind Baffins at the top, with a staggering seven games in hand.

However, Marchant’s outfit will still be keen to get back on track with 12 games left this season.

The battle for top spots is reaching boiling point with Baffins and AFC Stoneham also eager to secure the highest placing possible as they look to fulfil their Wessex promotion ambitions.
