SHE WILL be battling against hundreds to defend her title.

Marina Cornwall can lift three times her body weight with ease.

Now the 61-year-old from Southampton has beaten seven British records in power lifting ahead of the World Championships.

Marina has had a career perfectly crafting and training her body for 17 years, originally starting as a body builder before discovering her love for power lifting three years ago.

Now she will be travelling to Finland in June to defend her title as World Champion.

The pint-sized competitor and personal trainer said: “I was really happy to break those records.

“It was part of the competition to qualify for the worlds.

“I’m feeling really good, I’ve had some amazing achievements and it makes me so proud that I am representing my country.”

Marina broke the British records for a squat with 82.5 kilos, a bench press with 51.5 kilos and a dead lift with 126 kilos in different competitive categories and will be aiming to beat these again in a bid to take home the crown of World Champion for the second time.

She is currently ninth in the world for bodybuilding and holds the title of British and European power lifting champion as well and she competes in her weight category of 44 kilos.

Her passion for the sports started when she was in her 30s watching the TV show Gladiators and Marina started training in the gym, travelling more than 20 miles to a centre in Gosport for the right equipment to train with.

Since then she hasn’t looked backed, gaining numerous titles and training in the gym for at least an hour six days a week to reach her goals.

Marina added: “I love power lifting, there’s a real contrast between that and body building because it’s all about what you can lift rather than someone’s opinion of your poses and work on your muscles.

“I feel like I have really excelled in this sport, I’ve always loved being active and this has really taken me a long way over the years, I’ve surprised myself with how strong I am but I love it – I seem to get better with age.”
