Tottonians have the chance to claim the London 2 South-West title tomorrow against this season’s greatest rivals.

One more bonus point victory for the leaders against second-placed London Cornish will see them step up to London 1 South as champions.

But claiming five points in the clash against a quality Cornish side will be a big ask for the home team who are expecting a bumper crowd at Water Lane (3pm).

Tottonians, though, have a six-point cushion over their visitors, along with a huge points advantage, and three matches left to fulfil their ambition.

Proud Totts’ chairman Paul Searle is backing the stance head coach Gavin Williams has taken all season and taking nothing for granted until the job is complete.

Searle said: “It’s not done and dusted yet so I’m not going to get carried away.”

Totts have lost just one game so far this campaign and Searle is keen to point out that most of their players have come through the club’s successful youth system.

He added: “The vast majority of the team are home grown and that is good because we are one of the only teams in the league where that is the case.

“We are doing well in the seconds, thirds and fourths and you have to have that through-put of players for the club to succeed.

“They have had a fantastic season, working well together and it is a pleasure to see them doing so well. The most important thing is that everyone is enjoying it.”

If Totts do step up to London 1 South it will be the highest the club has competed at since it was formed in 1962.

And they have the luxury of being at full strength for tomorrow’s important game.

Williams said: “We have a very strong side at the weekend and have had to leave two or three top first team standard players out, which is hard for them.

“Cornish will be going hell for leather to make it as difficult for us as possible and we have to be prepared for everything they will throw at us which will be the kitchen sink and anything else they have.

“A bonus point game could not be a more fitting term for this match. To be in a position where we can win the league with three games to go is beyond our dreams – and we are at home where we have not lost all season.”
