James Vince admits it was a "huge honour" to be asked to captain the England Lions one-day side.

Vince has been confirmed as the Lions captain for the the five-match one day series against South Africa A that begins on Sunday.

The 23 year-old, who led Hampshire to T20 Blast Finals Day as the county’s youngest post-war captain, scored 261 runs at 130.5 during the two-'Test' series in Paarl and Bloemfontein.

He said: "It was a huge honour when our coach Mark Robinson asked me if I would lead the team.

"I have played under some great captains both at Hampshire and with the Lions, and I really enjoyed the captaincy experience I gained at Hampshire last summer.

"We have already seen from the four-day games that South Africa are tough opponents and, if anything, their squad for the one-day series looks ever stronger. But we also have some new faces in our squad and it is a challenge we are all relishing."

Robinson said: “James had success captaining Hampshire last year in the T20 and we think giving him further exposure here will be beneficial to both the Lions as a team and James in the future."
