Former Exeter University marksman Josh Godfrey bagged a hat-trick as Fareham hit NOW: Pensions Western Conference strugglers Indian Gymkhana for six at Henry Cort.

He scored once before half-time and two more goals in the closing stages as Fareham won 6-2 to send the Asian visitors crashing to a third successive defeat.

Beaten 3-1 by Team Bath last weekend, Fareham dominated the first half, but took 25 minutes to break down a resolute Gymkhana defence.

The opening goal followed a fine flowing move from defence to attack – Chris Boyland and Ben Hibberd setting up Jon Potts.

Fareham doubled the lead five minutes later – Gymkhana conceding a penalty stroke and losing their captain and central defender in the bargain!

Hibberd converted the penalty.

In disarray, Indian Gymkhana reeled as Fareham piled on the pre-interval pressure, adding a third right on the break with Godfrey opening his account.

Alex Boxall might have added a fourth but, anticipating an easy ride, Fareham began to lose concentration and conceded two soft goals in eight second half minutes.

Laxman Karan and Sergio Pedrosa clawing it back to 3-2.

But their hard work came to nothing as Gymkhana surrendered possession and Danny Rawlings gleefully put Fareham 4-2 ahead.

It got worse for the London visitors when Polish import Mateusz Obst body checked Boxall off the ball, argued with the umpire – and was red carded!

Fareham controlled affairs thereafter, forcing numerous fine saves from Theo Dowse before Godfrey wrapped things up with further goals in the 61st and 67th minutes.

The win lifted Fareham into third place in the table, behind student pair Cardiff Met and Team Bath, who each have three-match unblemished records.

Free scoring Cardiff crushed University of Birmingham – visitors to Henry Cort on Sunday (1.30pm) – 9-2 to take their goal tally to 28 in three outings.

Havant-raised Tim Davenport scored five times as Team Bath slammed Whitchurch 7-1.
