SEAN Ervine believes his first century since 2012 could yet be a match-winning innings.

Hampshire will begin the final day of their penultimate match of the season on 110-1, 46 behind Kent’s 507, after following on at The Ageas Bowl.

But Ervine is thinking positively.

He said: “We still haven’t ruled out a win. The new ball kept a little low, and there’s a bit of turn so if Imran [Tahir] is on song and we can get 250 ahead with 45 overs left, who knows.”

“Spin will be a big factor. When they took the second new ball a few turned off the straight and Mitch Claydon got a couple to bounce during a fantastic spell so it’ll be interesting.”

Ervine’s 121 was his first hundred since May 2012 and he got there with his fourth six. “I was pleased to get over the line after two years of waiting and the way it was done was pleasing - but as a team we needed those extra two points,” continued the left-hander, who added 98 for the last wicket with James Tomlinson.

“Tomo played just as well as I did, his straight drive to get off the mark was the shot of the game.”
