There is an opportunity to test your skills against a Tour De France legend in Hampshire this weekend.

Jens Voigt, a two time yellow jersey wearer, is the cycling hero who will be coming to the south coast to take part in a charity bike ride.

The German, who is famous for his exploits in the iconic race across France as well as the Giro d’Italia and endless international competitions, is coming to the New Forest on Saturday to cycle alongside 100 local riders to raise money for the Epilepsy Society and Oakhaven Hospice.

Voigt helped raise £10,000 in the 2013 event and is returning to help organiser Stuart Grace raise cash for the two causes.

The 57-year-old, who works for yachting firm Sanders Sails in Lymington, wants help to raise awareness of epilepsy, which his daughter Amy suffers from.

Grace is also eager to donate to Oakhaven in Lymington where a family member is currently being cared for.

“They are very personal causes, but it very important that people become more aware,” said Grace.

“The cycle ride is a perfect way for people to get involved in a great day and get money to important places.

“So many people suffer from epilepsy and they deserve some help and funding.

“Everyone that enters will have the chance to ride alongside Voigt. That kind of opportunity doesn’t come along every day.”

There is still time to sign up for the event that navigates is its way across a 45 mile route in the New Forest, starting at Bashley.

It will cost the rider £100 to enter – half of which will be a donation. The price will include food and drink as well as a Tshirt signed by Voigt, who will also be on hand to chat throughout the day.

Voigt said: “After a great start to our charity ride last year we want to make it happen again and raise money for two charities.”

Non-riders can also get involved and watch the action unfold. Email Stuart Grace on stuart_singlespeed@hotmail.co.uk for more details.
