Matthew Callaway and Lucy-Jane Matthews both took regional titles last weekend as Southampton AC nabbed nine track and field medals.

Crystal Palace was hosting, the South of England U15 & U17 championships where Callaway took the U17 men’s discus title with a throw of 40.56m. The club won four medals in total, including Luke Powell who set a new PB and went to second on the clubs all-time list with a 4 min 40.3s for silver in the U17 mens 1500m steeplechase.

Reiss Jarvis took bronze in the U15 boys 300m and Ellie Hodgson also took bronze in the U15 girls shot putt.

Elsewhere at Crystal Palace, Amy Teal was 4th in the U17 womens 100m final, Owen Lawrence 6th in the U17 mens 100m hurdles final and 9th in the high jump, Anna Sharp 7th in the U17 womens 1500m steeplechase, Kieran Apps 5th in the U17 mens pole vault and Ben Upfold 5th in the U15 boys discus.

Exeter hosted the South West England championships which incorporate all age groups and the inter-county championships and included two Southampton AC athletes and five medals!

Lucy-Jane Matthews won a medal of each colour in her three events in the U13 girl’s group. L-J took gold in the 70m hurdles, silver in the 100m, breaking her own club record in 13.33 secs, and then bronze in the 200m in a time of 28 secs flat, equalling Megan Fry’s eight-year-old club record.

Ronnie Young took silver in both the 200m and 400m in the U20 mens age group. Ronnie ran the 200m in a time of 22.12 secs and the 400m in a time of 48.65 secs.
