Three generations of the same family played for Curdridge Royal British Legion as they won the Southampton Social Clubs League’s Pete Marchi Snooker Cup with a dramatic comeback.

Derek Fry played alongside his son Dave Fry and grandson Axel Peplow as well as captain Robin Smith, Trev Harris, Derek Holt and Clive Gamblin.

They saw off Totton D in the final after going 2-1 down and achieved their third Pete Marchi title in the club’s history.

“It’s a big achievement for our club, we’ve only got about ten people,” said Smith.

“It went down to the pink and black ball on the final frame. We were in front, pink and black left, they needed a snooker.

“Our player left the pink sat over the hole, so we thought we’d lost it, but their bloke missed the shot and that was it – definitely a stroke of luck for us!

“We always seem to do well in the Pete Marchi competition. I don’t know what it is. We got to now defend our title.

“It depends on the draw but we’re feeling confident.”
