JIMMY Adams is hoping to revive memories of the best day of his career when he leads Hampshire into the inaugural Royal London One-Day Cup.

Five years after top scoring with 55 as Hampshire won the Friends Provident Trophy final, Adams is preparing for the return of 50-over domestic cricket – and a return to Lord’s.

Hampshire have not played a competitive 50-over game since beating Sussex at Lord’s in 2009, which Adms rates as his finest hour, despite the subsequent success in T20 and 40-over cricket.

“It was my first Lord’s final and to score a few runs and be successful made it an incredible day,” he said.

“That year was the birth of my one-day career, it was amazing to be part of it and it would be nice to get back there.”

Hampshire will need to finish in the top four of their group to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Unlike the NatWest T20 Blast, the pools are not regionalised so Hampshire begin their campaign with trips to Derbyshire tomorrow and Lancashire on Sunday.

“It’s a slightly revamped comp so it’s a little bit of an unknown but we enjoy this form of cricket. It does feel weird starting a new comp when it’s nearly August but the guys are looking forward to a fresh start.”

With David Balcombe (knee) out for a month, Nathan Rimmington back in Australia and Kyle Abbott away with South Africa, James Tomlinson could play his first limited-overs game of the season.

Hampshire: Vince, Carberry, Adams, Dawson, Maxwell, Ervine, Smith, Coles, Wheater, Wood, Briggs, Tomlinson
