Hampshire rally driver Innes Marlow to make comeback at Goodwood Festival of Speed
9:11am Friday 27th June 2014 in Sport
Hampshire rally driver Innes Marlow will be back in the hot seat this weekend following a 10-year sabbatical.
The 51-year-old will be behind the wheel at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
“I had been considering a minor comeback with some low-key events, but when the invitation from Goodwood dropped through the door, I couldn't say no,’’ Marlow said.
The Fareham-based driver will be reunited with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV that he and co-driver wife Alyson last piloted together on the final round of the 1999 World Championship. The couple were regularly seen on British Championship and WRC events during the 1990s. “Goodwood is one of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world so I'm looking forward to being there, and being reunited with the Mitsubishi,’’ Marlow added.
“We’ve had a great team of technicians working on the car and they’ve blown away a few touches of age and cobwebs on the car.
“The car has had a total interior rebuild. We have also returned it to the pink and blue Ordnance Survey livery that became our trademark through the 1990s - it looks stunning.”
Innes will be in action on the rally stage at Goodwood throughout the weekend alongside the likes of nine times World Champion Sebastien Loeb and Alister McRae.
