Brokenhurst Manor’s Liz Young enjoyed her best result of the Ladies European Tour season with a top-five finish in the Slovak Open.

Young finished in a tie for fifth at the Tále Golf Resort, banking just over €9,000 in prize money.

The result continued her solid campaign, lifting her into 27th position in the order of merit.

Young, pictured, has earned €23,057 in prize money this year, as she looks to better last season’s total of €65,812.

The 31-year-old was consistently strong throughout the week in Slovakia, opening with a one-under-par round of 71, which included four birdies on the back nine.

It was a similar story on day two for Britain’s former number one amateur, as she found five birdies on her way to another 71.

That left Young well positioned going into the weekend, when she continued to threaten towards the top of the leaderboard.

A level-par 72, which included her only double bogey of the week, left her holding a share of fourth going into the final round.

Young started Sunday three shots off the lead and in with an outside chance of securing a first ever Tour win.

She was unable to get into the thick of the fight, though, as Sweden’s Camilla Lennarth posted a six-under-par 66 to run away with the tournament, with an 11-under total for the week.

Young finished well, though, with two birdies and two bogeys in her final round seeing her card another 72.

Her two-under-par total was good enough for a share of fifth, one spot shy of tying her career-best finish.

The result marked her first top-ten of the season, and the third time she has placed inside the top 20 this year.

Young now heads to Perugia this week to continue her campaign, in the Italian Open.
