Michael Carberry will not be opening with Alastair Cook at Lord's next week

First published in Sport

Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry has been left out of England's squad for next week's first Test v Sri Lanka at Lord's.

Only Kevin Pietersen scored more Ashes runs for England during the winter whitewash and Carberry's hopes were raised by his ODI recall.

But Middlesex's Sam Robson has replaced him as captain Alastair Cook's opening partner.

Moeen Ali and Chris Jordan are also set for their Test debuts, with Chris Woakes has been preferred to Ben Stokes, who was considered short of full match fitness.

England: Cook, Robson, Root, Bell, Ballance, Moeen Ali, Prior, Broad, Jordan, Anderson, Woakes, Plunkett

Jordan (a West Indian who considers himself a West Indian and only English for cricket purposes), Robson (an Australian who has played for the Australian U19 team) and Ballance (a Zimbabwean who has played for the Zimbabwe U19 team) have no place in an England team.

I am afraid he had his chances and failed to live up to expectations. I hope he settles back into the county side to help get back to division one.

If he wants to play for England he should move to Middlesex, Surrey or Kent, not much chance while playing for Hampshire, they don't like us.

I agree Osprey Funny how the two highest run scorers from the winter (Carbs and KP) have been dumped whilst the highest run scorer in all competitions - Vince has not been selected. Hmmm and the Rose Bowl did not get an Ashes test match. Pure coincidence.....

To be fair I think he's a better one day player than a test match player,I hope he is still chosen for this form of the game for England ,
