Mottisfont made their Hampshire League County Division 4 North debut after promotion from Regional Div 1 West with a home win against Alton 3rds.
They scored 280-8, Alton replying with 163-8.
The visitors put the Font into bat and the home side couldn’t have made a better start – the opening pair put on 124 off 24 overs before Ian Bradwell (40) and Dan Husband (67) were eventually dismissed in quick succession.
The Font continued the hammer the Alton attack and the third wicket partnership of Richard Blake (45) and R.J. Davey (58) added 83. Terry Byrne added a late came of 23 which with 32 extras amounted to a formidable score of 280.
Alton’s reply started well with the opening pair making 56. Skipper Laurence Hughes punished the Font bowlers but when he was the third wicket to fall Alton’s innings tailed off. Only Martin Ball (36no) offered any real resistance.
Richard Blake (4-28) and Neil Barnes (2-23) were the pick of the Font bowlers as they recorded a 117- run victory and picked up 23 points.
