After a successful winter indoor season for both the colts and men’s teams, this weekend sees the cricket season in full flow as four of OTs & Romsey’s teams begin their campaigns.

The first team already started their Southern Electric Premier Cricket League Division 2 campaign last week with a tricky away fixture to Totton & Eling II.

Put in to bat and after a slow start, Romsey’s middle order managed to establish partnerships with Charlie King (16) and Stuart Shapland (20) showing some resistance. But more wickets fell to leave them 85-7.

The lower order battled to rescue Romsey.

Pete Newman, in at nine, top scored with 22 and number ten Richard Lake added 18. The late rally took Romsey to 158 all out.

After Romsey’s Daniel Mogg and Inayat Ullah removed both home openers for ducks, Totton & Eling were rocking at 2-2.

But an unbeaten knock of 67 by Jimmy Taylor and a further 40 from James Haggaty were enough to guide the hosts to victory by six wickets.

This Saturday, the first team host Sparsholt at the Romsey Sports Centre (1pm start).

Sparsholt beat Hartley Wintney last week by four runs.

The second team, who will be playing their home games at the Romsey Sports Centre again this year, begin their Hampshire Cricket League (HCL) County Division 2 season on Saturday with a trip to Basingstoke & North Hants III.

The thirds will play in HCL County Division 3 North.

Their home games will be at East Tytherley.

They start their league season with a short journey to Michelmersh & Timsbury on Saturday.

The fourths will also be playing their home games at East Tytherley. On Saturday, they begin their HCL Regional Division 2 North campaign with a home game against Michelmersh & Timsbury II (2pm).

The fifths host Wilton at Hunts Farm on Saturday (2pm). The team will compete in HCL Regional Division 3 North West.
