Brock stun Sholing

Hampshire Chronicle: Dave Diaper Dave Diaper

FA Vase heroes Sholing crashed back to earth with a 2-0 Sydenhams Premier Division defeat at Brockenhurst last night.

And, ironically, the player who did all the damage doubles up as a member of the Boatmen's reserve side!

Both goals were scored by former Eastleigh reserve player Braiden Hamilton who is registered on Wyvern Combination forms for Sholing while still playing Wessex football for Brock.

The Boatmen went close to going in 1-0 up at half-time, but Ashley Jarvis hit the post.

Hamilton punished a defensive error to open the scoring on the hour and Sholing boss Dave Diaper was honest enough to admit: “Once that first goal went in, there was only one team going to win.

“Brock did really well, playing high energy football and closing us down.

“After a tough Vase semi-final the last thing we needed was a load of energetic youngsters flying round us!”

It was Sholing's third league defeat of the season, keeping them seven points adrift of leaders Alresford with six games in hand.

“We're victims of our own success because playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday is demanding especially as the lads have got to work as well,” Diaper admitted.

“We'll shuffle the pack again for Newport IoW (away) on Thursday.”

It was a bad evening too for Fawley AFC. They remain second-to-bottom after a 3-0 home defeat by AFC Portchester. George Wells, Nathan Kirby and Jamie Musselwhite got the goals.
