MICHAEL Carberry was out for two single-figure scores as Hampshire were outplayed by Middlesex on the second and final day of their pre-season friendly at The Ageas Bowl.

Carberry was twice dismissed by Tim Murtagh, for nine and six, as Hampshire were bowled out for 204 in reply to the visitors 377-5 declared , before finishing their second innings on 42-2. James Vince (52) and Will Smith (60) were the only batsmen to impress against an attack that included England discard Steve Finn (11.2-3-37-3), Toby Roland-Jones (2-44), Ollie Rayner (2-21) and James Harris, who finished the match wicketless.

Smith was caught and bowled by Finn, who took the wickets of Matt Coles and Danny Briggs before Hampshire batted again.

Liam Dawson (17), Sean Ervine (15) and Jimmy Adams (14) were the only batsmen to reach double figures during Hampshire’s first innings.

Opening the batting, Dawson made 21 before he too was dismissed for a second time, bowled by Roland-Jones.

Hampshire begin their season on Sunday with an LV County Championship match against Worcestershire at the Ageas Bowl.
