Trojans will face Winchester in the Hampshire Day county women’s hockey final at Bournemouth Sports Club’s Chapel Gate complex on bank holiday Monday, May 5.
In the semi-finals, Trojans beat cup holders Southampton 5-3, while a Lizzie Jenkins goal gave Winchester a 1-0 success against Haslemere at Kings.
Two goals in quick succession gave a predominately teenage Trojans side the head start at Stoneham Lane – Jill Tombs putting what appeared a slow motion drag flick penalty corner past the stationary Linda Dunham.
Hannah Leigh doubled the score, but Lauren Carter responded with a crisp short corner from the top of the D to put Southampton back in the game.
The visitors’ joy was short lived as KES talent Yvie Lock wriggled her way through the Southampton defence before tucking away a delightful reverse stick shot.
Lock’s goal was probably the highspot of Trojans 3-1 interval lead.
Any prospect Southampton had of getting back into the contest disappeared when Jenny Peebles put away a penalty corner soon after the break.
It looked as though Trojans might run riot when Annabel Field fired a low shot through the legs of the evergreen Dunham to make it 5-1 Southampton came back with goals by Lauren Butcher and a third by Lauren Carter, but the final 5-3 scoreline flattered the visitors.
