Hampshire trainer Marcus Tregoning is looking forward to the new flat season.

Never accustomed to hyperbole, Whitsbury-based Tregoning is pleased with his new intake of some 20 juveniles which make up about half his team, writes John Hoskins. “It's easy to eulogise about horses but I'm encouraged by what I've seen,” he said. “Naturally we have not done much with them. “I would like to think there are one or two good ones. “It would show Whitsbury is a great place to have horses trained. It's a great selling point and this is a beautiful place. We are lucky to be here.”

It was in February of last year that Tregoning moved from Kingsdown Stables, perched over the Lambourn valley where he trained Sir Percy to win the 2006 Derby, as well as more than 50 group winners.

Whitsbury has missed the worst of the woeful winter and his string is well forward.

He has already saddled two winners in 2014, both at Lingfield, with Secret Pursuit winning an all-aged maiden in January and then with the five-year-old mare Cataria Girl who relished the step up to ten furlongs in a handicap this month.

Not renowned for saddling runners in the first week of a turf season, he has however two high profile entries at Doncaster with the 2011 Cambridgeshire winner Bronze Angel earmarked for today’s Lincoln. The classy Boom and Bust goes for the listed Lincoln Mile on the same card.

The imposing Snow Trouble who is entered in the English and French 2,000 Guineas, ran twice last term. Third on his debut at Kempton, he then beat a large field in a maiden at Goodwood's July meeting.

Tregoning had planned to step the American bred Tapit colt up to listed class at Salisbury but he met with a setback and was put away for the remainder of the season.
