Wellow Tennis Club’s Men’s A team clinched the Division 5A title with a convincing win over South Hants 8-1.

This victory also maintained their 100 per cent record this season.

Only South Hants’ second pair gave Wellow’s Stuart Martin and Ben Wallis, Richard Millard and John Moret and Mike Bevan and Paul Goodman any trouble.

Millard and Moret had the best result of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over South Hants’ first pair. This result also ensured that Wellow’s B team avoid relegation. There was more good news for Wellow when their Sarum A team completed their winter fixtures with a resounding 8-0 victory over Littleton B.

Fielding a very young team, Wellow were far too strong for their opponents and dropped only nine games in eight sets.

Pride of place went to Ruth Hounslow, who dropped just one game in the whole match.

She was partnered by Laurent Watremetz in the mixed doubles and Frances Arnott in the ladies. The other member of the team was Stuart Martin.

Wellow were already guaranteed promotion back to the top division but this win also meant that Wellow’s B team avoided relegation and secured another season in Division 2, where they will be joined by Wellow’s C team.
